Cost of Eating Healthy

What’s the Real Cost of Eating Healthy?
Let’s talk about something we ALL feel deep in our pockets… and our stomachs: eating healthy.

Now, being from Guam, we already know the struggle is real. Access to healthy food that doesn’t require selling your left kidney? Yeah, not easy. And don’t get me started on the prices. We’re spending a ton for fruits and veggies that rot before you even finish your prayer? ITS NUTS.

Our culture is rooted around food — not “in” it — so it's a constant battle. And after 15+ years in the food and nutrition world, I’ve seen, heard, cooked, bought, and bartered with just about everyone in the healthy food industry. Sadly, I haven’t seen much change when it comes to affordability or accessibility.

So here’s what I wanna talk about this regarding this topic:

💸 Why “eating healthy is expensive” is both true and false on Guam

🥦 Fresh vs Frozen vs Canned Veggies – what’s really worth it

🚢 How shipping and our island location affects the value

🧠 The hidden “costs” of eating like trash (hint: it ain’t just money)

Let’s start with the biggest myth:
“Eating healthy is expensive.”

Honestly… this one’s kinda true. And also kinda BS.
Let me explain.

A lot of people think healthy = fancy. Like, if your dinner doesn’t have misoyaki salmon, quinoa-couscous-black-rice medley, microgreens, and hand-massaged kale, it doesn’t count. But that’s not it.

Healthy can also mean:

  • A big bag of brown rice

  • A bulk pack of frozen chicken

  • A bag of frozen green beans that doesn’t die on you by Thursday

Simple, affordable, and yes — still healthy.
But the key question is: Are you willing to make the sacrifice?

Now, let’s talk about people who say they “don’t have time to cook” or “don’t know how to cook”.
Cool. That’s why meal prep services exist. And the best one… FIT FOR YOU GUAM dawg… come on.

But then they say... “Meal prep is too expensive.” 😒
Bro. You’re not adding it to your grocery bill — it’s replacing it. You’re not supposed to still buy chips, poke bowls, boba, and hot cheetos on top of meal prep. It’s not a side hustle. It’s the main hustle.

Where the myth is true:
Yeah, I’ll admit — some healthy foods on Guam are stupid expensive.
Juices? Berries? Avocados? Don’t even try to pick a ripe one. And don’t get me started on almond butter.
This is where location and shipping play a huge role — and I’ll break that all down in next week’s post.

But for now, just remember:
Healthy eating doesn’t have to mean expensive or extreme.
Sometimes it just means rice, meat, veggies, water, and chill

Shoot for now,
